Explore Fort Lauderdale – Beyond Beach Eats and Treats
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Many people visit Fort Lauderdale for its stunning beaches and unrelenting sunshine. But even the bliss of beachside fun gets old after too many tries. If you have run out of things to do in Fort Lauderdale but still want to visit, you will be happy to know that the town has many charms. There are many ways to enjoy your time in this part of South Florida that don’t include water and sand. If you are ready to explore, here are five unconventional and unique treats of Fort Lauderdale.

Regina’s Farm

After a long day of visiting open houses with Fort Lauderdale real estate agent Gilles Rais, step out of the sun and enjoy an authentic Brazilian home-cooked dinner at Regina’s Farm. Regina starts the meal with a soup that changes weekly and ranges from chicken stew and beef to corn and vegan. The main course is always a Brazilian meal with influences from Regina’s hometown of Minas Gerais. After dinner, you can enjoy delicious cheese bread, cakes, flans, and other desserts. The small urban farm is furnished with family-style picnic tables and a toy train for the children. Meals are cooked over the fire, and reservations are made months in advance.

To the Moon

To the Moon is a candy shop located in Wilton Manors. Opened in 2005, this establishment sells all your old favorite candies and treats, including Moxie, RC Cola, Sun Drop soda, Sanders Candy, Jiffy Pop, My T Fine, and Junket. Their store features a collection of over 13,000 candies, collectibles, sweets, greeting cards, and classic toys. And if you have a particularly sweet tooth, you will enjoy the 90 dark chocolate bars, 100-percent chocolate, bulk candy, and imported treats from across the globe.

Classic Gateway Theater

The Classic Gateway Theater is unlike any other movie theater. This iconic entertainment spot opened its doors in 1951 and screens independent films and blockbusters. Every month, it screens the “Rocky Horror Picture Show” at midnight with shadow actors singing and dancing along to the script. Even better, the audience can play along during key scenes.

Small Wine Shop

Wine lovers will love the charming Small Wine Shop. As its name suggests, this establishment sits in a small space and serves small-production wines. Located in Flagler Village, the intimate shop features a collection of hand-selected bottles with primarily biodynamic, organic, and natural leanings. Patrons can enjoy the Daytrippin’ wine club, which serves classics with a modern twist, or Wanderlust, which samples wines from across the globe. Small Wine Shop also hosts workshops and movie nights.

Mama Hanks

Mama Hanks is one of the best restaurants in Fort Lauderdale and also one of the quirkiest. Patrons need a secret code, usually a secret handshake, to access the reservation-only speakeasy. Inside, the bar and restaurant flaunt an American West theme with black and buffalo leather stencil prints and decorations. The menu also boasts a rich selection of steaks and whiskeys.
